Orlando Chiropractor, Dr. Ronald Fulmore Sr & Jr….If you are currently suffering from back pain, or have experienced it before, you’re not alone. The statistics on the prevalence of back-related pain are nothing less than shocking:
According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1994, at any point in time over 31 million people in America are experiencing lower back pain. Up to 85% of people worldwide will experience back pain at some point in their lives.
50% of Americans in the work force report symptoms of back pain every year. One third of them over the age of 18 have had back pain severe enough to require professional help within the last five years.
Back pain has been reported as the second most common reason (second only to upper respiratory infections) for visits to a healthcare provider, and is one of the most frequent reasons given for having to miss work.
The primary cause of disability for those under the age of 45 is back pain. The yearly cost of care for back pain has been estimated at 50 billion dollars, surpassed only by the cost of care for cancer and heart disease.
Too often generalized approaches are used to treat structural health by providers in Orlando. Chiropractic care many times needs the incorporation of various healing modalities as: physical therapy, massage therapy, lazer therapy, and proper nutrition to regain the full well-being of a patient. Back Pain: Vertebrae are the bones that make up your spine. There are 24 freely moveable vertebrae in your neck, mid and lower back. Vertebrae can become misaligned by many things including: a slip or fall, poor posture, improper lifting, or even sneezing. Your vertebrae move with the help of muscles. You have 640 muscles in your body. Each one has a specific job to do. By definition muscles generate force and produce movement. Muscles can become spasmed or tighten up as a result of the same items I just mentioned that can cause your vertebrae to misalign. Underneath the muscles and vertebrae is your nervous system. There are over one billion nerves in your body. Stretched end to end they would exceed 45 miles. Subluxations not only cause pain and stiffness in your neck and back but they also cause malfunction or loss of health throughout your body. I once had a patient who became misaligned by a simple sneeze. She woke up the next morning with minor stiffness and lower back pain. She decided to take some medication and move on with her day. She continued for a week without seeking treatment for her back pain and as a result ended up bed ridden for eight months. Her misalignment turned into three herniated discs causing loss of range of motion and sciatic nerve pain. She literally could not walk or dress herself. It took three chiropractic and physical therapy visits a week along with multiple massage therapy sessions, spinal decompression and supplement treatment for three months to regain total and complete healing. Shoulder and Neck Pain: If you have ever experienced frequent headaches you know what a nuance they can be. And if you have ever had the misfortune of being laid out from a debilitating migraine you understand the importance of seeking treatment right away. Although there could be other causes, there might be a cause worth talking about, and it is something that has actually been known by Chiropractors for over 100 years. When you experience a trauma of any kind, slipping on ice, falling off a horse, or being involved in an auto accident, oftentimes the top vertebra in our spine, atlas or C1, can be jarred from its normal position. This vertebra is the only one in the entire spine not connected by discs to the vertebra below. It is held in place only by ligaments and tendons. In the case of an injury, these ligaments and tendons can be stretched to make way for the C1's new position. Add this to the fact that the Atlas is the only vertebra that can actually induce increased pressure or tension on the spinal cord by its ability to move so freely and you have bigger issues. Sitting just above the Atlas is the brain stem, which is essentially the precursor to the spinal cord. The brain stem is the part of your nervous system that controls and regulates all of your necessary and vital organ functions; things like breathing, heart beat, blood pressure, coordination, balance, immune system. When the Atlas has encroached upon the neural canal that the spinal cord descends through, this added stress and tension affects the brain stem, essentially disrupting or blocking communication to the rest of the body. This is what we call a vertebral subluxation. This vertebral subluxation can lead to various problems throughout the body, not the least of which are migraine headaches. Don’t let your shoulder or neck pain continue and become more serious. I had a patient who was missing weeks of work due to migraines, which started out as stiff neck pain, eventually not only did he lose his job but his house as well because of all the money being spent on doctors and neurologist to figure out the cause. Long story short, he came to me and in one short month he was happy and migraine free! Visit our website at www.fulmorechiropratic.com or Call us today (407) 425-6578 in ALT Springs (407) 339-2888.

Do’s and Don’ts of Auto Accidents: Each year, thousands of people, like yourself, experience auto accidents that may eventually lead to pain and health problems that deeply affect their joy and happiness — yet they put a Band-Aid over their problem and never get it fully taken care of. You might just want to forget the accident ever happened — or mask the pain by popping a few aspirins or muscle relaxants — or worse yet, you ignore your injuries and simply hope it’ll all go away. Extensive research studies prove, that after most so-called “minor accidents”, you may suffer significant structural changes yet the real pain and disability often doesn’t appear for weeks, months, or even years. The first mistake people make after an auto accident is not seeking treatment right away. We see patients every day who say, “Gee, if only I had gotten this problem taken care of sooner, I wouldn’t be in so much pain today.” Oftentimes it takes several days for your body and nervous system to realize what has happened to it. Once your body figures out that it has been injured, it goes into what we call protective mode. This is where your muscles tighten up and it becomes increasingly difficult for you to move without pain. You probably know all too well what this stiffness feels like, don’t you? Your body realizes that it has been injured and it would really rather you not do it again — so it protects your joints and keeps you from moving very fast where you might do more damage. Another mistake people often make is taking medication to mask the pain. Again, medication is only a Band-Aid to cover the cut, if there is an infection and it is not treated and allowed to fester you could end up needing an amputation. Get the picture? Failing to take immediate action is by far the most common and worse mistake people make after being in an auto accident. Treatment right away will save you from more serious and chronic pain years later. Visit our website at www.fulmorechiropratic.com or Call us today (407) 425-6578 in ALT Springs (407) 339-2888.
